Heritage brand Peregrine dives deep into eco wool sourcing

“With a deep commitment to British farming and in recognition of the global climate and ecological crises, transitioning to UK-sourced regeneratively farmed wool is the logical next step. Peregrine is committing to sourcing 100% of its British wool from regenerative farms over the next five year”, it has confirmed. It said 2022 marks the start of this journey with 20% of Peregrine’s British wool collection coming from a transitional regenerative farm, located in Rye, East Sussex, with this volume growing 20% year-on-year through to 2026.

“While other brands are investing in regenerative agriculture overseas, Peregrine has specifically focused on supporting the restoration of landscapes, soil and habitats in its own backyard, whilst at the same time mitigating against the additional carbon emissions of importing the wool”, it said.Peregrine believes its transition should be accessible to all farmers, teaming up with ‘Pasture for Life’, a UK-based certification body for regenerative farmers whose ethos is bound to 100% pasture fed livestock. The company is also partnering with pioneering technology ‘Soil Mentor’, a low-cost app that puts change in the hands of the farmer through easy benchmarking and guidance to improve soil health on-farm.Peregrine Clothing MD Tom Glover said: “The UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world and we are supporting farmers working to turn this story around. Through our work with Pasture for Life and Soil Mentor, we are able to make a difference at farm level and help drive the national movement towards more nature-friendly farming practices.”
